Genesis over-riding page builder settings

Hi guys,

I’m using Beaver Builder on a Genesis site with the News Pro theme.

I’m having a few problems getting the changes made via the page builder to “stick” after I click save. It’s as if Genesis is over-riding the customisation I’ve done via BB.

For example, if I add a “heading” block, choose H1, then a custom font size, this shows great in the live preview but when I click save it reverts to the standard font size for H1s. I need to make it smaller and would normally use BB to control this through the custom setting, but it just won’t stick.

I’m having the same H1 size control with the settings for the call to action module. Headings are also not centering when set to show in centre, they’re aligning left.

I thought I’d try to use a text widget as when I’ve used the BB plugin together with the BB theme, I’ve set text in the text editor to H1 then overwrittten the font size easily from the text editor UI.

Have realised this must be a cool feature of the BB theme, as I can’t do this with the text editor in this Genesis theme :frowning:

I then installed the Genesis Dambuster plugin as I saw in the overview video that there was an “allow tweaks” setting that I thought may do it. It didn’t help!

Thanks for any help you can give,
Lee

It’s always the way…I found a fix about 60 seconds after posting this message!

The Genesis Dambuster plugin solved it for me. I hadn’t realised I needed to check the “allow tweaks” checkbox in the WP Edit screen for the specific page I’m editing with the page builder plugin.

Checked the box, and the changes now stick.

Hopefully helpful for someone else out there!

Best wishes,
Lee

Grrr…

That fix worked for a while, then stopped working again. So I unchecked the box, and it worked again.

Then it stopped working with the box checked AND unchecked!

So I would be back to square one, but now things are worse.

I noticed that I had some udpates that needed taking care of so I updated:

  • WordPress to the latest version
  • Genesis to the latest version
  • All plugins to the latest versions including BB
  • All translations

Then I went to edit the page in question with the page builder, but now I can’t select any of the rows or modules I created on the page. Also, the menu items on the right of the BB plugin/page builder interface look wrong - there’s way more spacing around each “add content” option than before.

I then thought it might be chrome, so I checked and using the latest version chrome version. I also tried with Firefox and Safari but just can’t get it to work.

The second problem I was trying to fix was that I have a set of icons on my page that are left-aligned, and show on the left on desktops. But on smaller screens they spring over to centre-aligned, and I can’t find any option anywhere to get them to remain left-aligned on smaller devices.

Please help guys!

Thanks,
Lee

OK, another idea as to what may be causing BB to misbehave.

I’ve added a sharpspring.com form to this page, and trawling through your forum I found a post that mentioned some code in a widget was throwing another user’s site off.

I added the code as an HTML module, but now as I can’t get the BB page builder to work I can’t remove it to see if that’s what is causing the trouble!

Hmmm…head scratcher…

Hey Lee,

Thanks for posting! And sorry to hear you’re having trouble. This sounds like a problem caused by a 3rd party plugin conflict. Could you go through the plugin deactivation route, i.e., disable all plugins and test the Beaver Builder while reactivating each to determine if the issue is related to a 3rd party plugin. Let us know how it goes!

Hi Ben,

Sorry if this thread sounds a little frantic. Been pulling long hours on too many projects, and this problem baffled me.

Thanks for your advice re plugin conflicts, I went through and it seems to be a conflict with an ad management plugin called AdRotate - https://wordpress.org/plugins/adrotate/

The client really likes this plugin, so what steps should I take to try and make the 2 play nicely? Or, should I just look for an alternative?

Thanks,
Lee

Hey Lee,

No worries! I tried downloading that plugin to my localhost but I can’t seem to recreate the issue. Do you mind listing the steps needed to ‘activate’ the plugin(no experience with ads here)? That way I can recreate the problem and probably submit a bug report?

Ben

Thanks for such solid support Ben.

I moved on to another project for a couple of days and as you said it was working for you, when I returned I tried reactivating the conflicting plugin.

And it just worked fine!

No idea why. In future I’ll be re-enabling plugins that were conflicting to see if that fixes the conflict. It’s a new one on me but I’m happy it’s fixed

Thanks again,
Lee

Hey Lee,

That sounds a bit weird but I’m glad it’s working fine for you! Definitely let us know if the problem comes up again and we’ll take a look! Have fun with BB!
