Overriding, Extending a module and 2 step opt-in

Hello,
is it possible to override/extend a module within a plugin? I know it’s possible within a theme: http://forum.wpbeaverbuilder.com/custom-module-documentation/#override-built-in

I would like to extend the subscription module about 2 step opt-in option and create a plugin for that.

I’ve spoken to our developers and unfortunately, overriding a module via a plugin isn’t currently possible.
