[Urgent] BB Is failing on my home page all of a sudden.

The BB Cropping options. Works on thumbnails - doesn’t work on anything else.

It either a) keeps ‘loading’ & spinning in an endless loop
b) Produces a ‘broken image’ icon

c) displays the regular sized image without any cropping applied

In all cases - if I save the ‘cropped’ setting and publish that page. When I try to enter the bbuilder again it breaks and nothing works. The only way to fix it is to revert changes.

Wordpress’s image cropping tool is working.

I have packaged my site up and put it back onto my development server at bluehost and it works fine. So I know with 100% certainty that it’s not a wordpress-side setting. It has to be server sided.

Well that’s good to know. Here’s a few more things to explore…

What kind of server is it?

Have you checked the server error log for clues?

Are the file permissions/owner different on the thumbnails? Maybe since they’re being generated by the server they have a different owner/permission and that’s causing issues? You could try manually changing the permissions on an image that you can’t crop, then see if you can crop it afterwards.

Does the issue happen at all outside of Beaver Builder? Like, have you tried cropping an image using the WordPress image editor?

Can you turn on WP Debug and see if any new error messages show up? If you can recreate the issue as mentioned in the last question, it would be good to try with WP Debug on, too.

Wordpress ‘crop’ tool also creates a 0 byte image file.

Well that’s a somewhat good sign. If you haven’t already, I would open up a ticket with the web host’s support. The root of this issue seems to be server configuration.

If WordPress’ native image cropping isn’t working, that should be their issue to troubleshoot. I am happy to help continue thinking about this and problem solving, but I don’t think there’s much else we can do to help.

Out of curiosity, why would it be troublesome to migrate this site to a new server? Is there some sort of special configuration? Considering the issues you’re having with the host, I would be running for the sunset as quickly as possible if it were me…

Yeah I knew that it was a server sided issue already. I was surprised (in a very good way!) that you continued to help me anyways! lol

I have sent them multiple support tickets - but all they do is point me in the direction of the PHP settings and aren’t really helping.
I’ve tried multiple combinations of activating/deactivating php modules and increasing/decreasing memory limits all to no avail.

I’ve sent them one final support request outlining the 0 byte file discovery, but will have to wait another 24 hours before they reply

I desperately want to migrate out but it’s the hosting server for a client of mine and I suggested they go with them in the first place. So it would mean not only migrating their server + arranging a refund. But also migrating all their emails too which is just a pain & reflects badly on me. I’m just toying with how to word it and how to best approach them about it.

Thanks for your help Robby - awesome once again.

My pleasure! I find these types of problems fun, haha! It’s a curse

I absolutely see why a server switch would be undesirable now. Oof! That does complicate things.

Knowing that it’s an image cropping issue, you could Google around more to see if other people have had a similar issue?

I’ll keep thinking about it. Let us know if you have any breakthroughs! Fingers are X’d that we’ll get this figured out sooner than later.
