Just noticing that when background videos are loaded onto iPhones, mobiles etc they aren’t loading the fallback image. Autoplay videos don’t work on iPhones / iPads these days and all it shows is a grey background with the standard iPhone play button which you can’t press because it’s a background.
Have come up with a quick hack to hide the video and show the image based on @media queries but is this something you’ll be able to look at? Or have I missed something else I need to do?
I’ve just checked and the link you sent works fine. Weird that it’s not working for me. Any reason why this might be? Sometimes it seems that I have to go into the editor to publish again as it seems to forget there is a video there and then just shows the fallback, which is fine across mobile devices.
I just checked your site on mobile both android and IOS and the fallback image just works fine? Do you mind sharing the device you’re using where it’s not working?
It just occurred to me that this may be caused by 3rd party plugin conflicts(I logged in to your site and noticed you have W3 Total Cache installed). Do you mind going through the plugin deactivation route, i.e., disable all plugins and test the Beaver Builder while reactivating each to determine if the issue is related to a 3rd party plugin. Let us know how it goes!
Just disabled W3 Cache and that solved the error of the video. Problem us we use W3 Total Cache to help speed up our sites. Any recommended tips to get around this? Do need both plugins working together to combine your awesome plugin with a caching one to speed everything up.
It may just be a caching issue, have you tried simply clearing the W3 Total Cache? We recommend using either Zen Cache or WP Rocket for those types of things.
Hi Ben, tried changing settings on Total cache but have since replaced with Zen Cache. Still the same issue though. Seems I can’t have a background video while I have a caching plugin enabled. Any tips where to go from here as I need to make sure my network of sites are fast but also need this video functionality.
Thanks for the help so far and sorry to keep coming back to you.
I have ZenCache on my end, the free version, and the video fallback works just fine. Is ZenCache installed/activated on your site right now? I can see the fallback image on mobile for now.
ZenCache is active now (although for some reason the tag they place before the bottom <body> tag isn’t there for some reason). The problem still exists though. I either get the fallback image on both desktop and on mobile OR the video works on desktop and I get the grey play button on iPhone. Are you able to pull up on mobile and desktop and see what I’m seeing?
I am seeing the fallback image on both desktop and mobile view right now. Are you using the default settings on ZenCache? I’m going to file a bug report for this and see if there’s something we can do. I’d suggest using your hack in the meantime. And thanks for the heads up!
