Beginner question re using Child theme

I have been using the combined BB theme and plugin with much satisfaction so far on <http://ips_2.onpressidium.com> (work in progress)
So far I have done quite a lot of work just using the inbuilt BB theme customiser options and a little bit of CSS code.
I am using the main BB theme at the moment but I understand that it would be good practice to use a child theme in the long term so my question is - can I make the change over to the child theme and not lose all the work and customisation I have made so far? I have installed the child theme now but not done anything with it yet! Luckily the Pressidium platform has a staging environment so I can experiment in safety.
Sorry if this is an elementary question but it may help others in the same situation.

Sorry for typo - the URL should be http://ips_2.onpressidium.com

Hey Mike,

Thanks for getting in touch! You will lose all theme customizations once you switch over to the child theme, however, you can export those customizations. On the bottom part of the Theme Customizer, there is an Export/Import option. You’ll need to install the plugin. Once done, you can simply export your main theme’s customizations, activate your child theme, and import the same. The only thing you need to take care of are those custom functions/CSS that you hard coded to the files, you’ll have to transfer those to the child theme.

Hope this helps!

Ben

Wow thanks for the speedy response! Yes that seems logical and clear. I will do that.

Many thanks Ben.
