Can't place images at all. Getting a PHP error

Hi,

I’m using BB on multisite. It works great.

I recently installed and ran the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin, but did a full backup first. Afterwards, BB could not add images. Choosing ‘insert’, media library shows only a white screen. If uploading, it shows the image being imported but then says: ‘HTTP Error’ in red letters.

After a full site restore & deleting that Regenerate plugin, the problem persists! Could it be a server issue?

I’m using the latest WP, BB versions, Chrome, and Firefox versions. Thanks, Tom

Hi William,

I have just used the Regenerate thumbnails plugin on my brothers website and I never encountered the issue you’ve described.

However, I have logged into your site and successfully uploaded an image. If you navigate to the Media Library, you should see a screenshot of the Reading Settings from the WordPress Admin Dashboard. Therefore, can you try and upload an image again, please.

Also, who hosts your site, as that isn’t the traditional WordPress Admin Dashboard.

Thanks,
Danny

Hi Danny,

Thanks for the reply. I don’t know for sure if Regenerate thumbnails plugin was the cause.

Uploading images to the Media Library directly works, but not via BB. You get “HTTP ERROR.” Try to insert an image using BB<, and you just get a white screen.
Here’s a screenshot. http://level.collector.ac/bb-isnt-working/

The problem is only with BB.

I’m using Digital Ocean for hosting. The dashboard is customized using Slate Pro and Admin Menu Editor plugins.

Hi William,

I have logged in and gone to your BB Isn’t Working page and successfully added a Photo Module and uploaded an image via the module. You can see my actions on the video below.

Therefore, can you record yourself doing the same thing, please. I recommend either Jing or QuickCast (OSX only).

Thanks,
Danny

Strange…!

Here’s a video of what I experience. This happens both on my MacBook and home iMac:

Hey William,

Does it happen on whatever image you’re trying to upload? Can you rename the file and see if that makes a difference? I just did the exact same thing you did on the video and it works fine from my end.

Hey William,

I just tried it on your main site and it works fine. On your media library you’ll notice there’s a bitbucket icon I’ve uploaded twice, first via the Photo module and second via the native WP media library. Can you download either/both, and try reuploading them via the Photo module and see if you get the same issue?

Ben

Hi Ben,

It still happens in Chrome, Version 47.0.2526.111 (64-bit). There’s a small error at bottom of page when trying to view media gallery: Javascript Void = 0.

It DOES work in an older Safari, Version 5.1.10. Can upload the bitbucket image, and any other image. (??!)

As long as it works on subsites, and I can edit the main site on Safari, I could ‘limp along’ like this. But I sure would like to figure it out!

PS, love the image slider. Been itching to update the home page. I’m launching Collector.ac any day now, offering hosted portfolio websites to artists.

There was never any problem uploading images via the native media library. It’s only via the Beaver.

Hey William,

I just tried it again and the media library opens up just fine - without any errors. Does this only happen on Chrome? Have you tried FF? Perhaps you have an addon with Chrome that is having a conflict? Can you check on that regard?

Ben

Hi Ben,

It DOES still happen in FF 43.0.4.
Cleared all history and re-launched it prior to checking.

Tom

Tried on FF 43.0.4 using another computer. Same result, white screen only.
Weird if it works for you in FF.

Hi Ben,

Uh oh. It DOES still happen in other subsites. Just tried http://themetwo.collector.ac in FF and same problem.

Can’t launch until I figure this out.

Tom

Hey Tom,

I just tried it on that subsite and the media library works fine, and I was able to upload another image. Thinking it might have something to do with permalinks, I published the page I created titled BB Test Page, and I can still upload the same image without issues. Can you try uploading an image to that page I created and see if you get the same thing?

Are you doing some kind of domain mapping stuff? Has this been a problem since before or it started just now?

Ben

Hi Ben,

The MUDEV domain mapping plugin is installed. No domains mapped yet. It is used to force SSL on all admin pages. Has been in place for weeks, no effect on BB. Permalinks are set to Post Name.

This problem started 3 days ago. Noticed it after installing, running and aborting the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin. But I did a full backup before running it, and a full restore, and the problem persists…

Surprising you can’t duplicate the error. I get it at home on a Windows 10/FF and El Capitan/Chrome 47.0.2526.111 (64-bit). I get it at work on both Macs. I get it whether logged in as admin or another user, and on both existing pages and new pages.

There is a single WP install on the same Digital Ocean VPS. Just installed BB pro version, it works normally on it.

The page you referenced is gone, I created a new one. http://collector.ac/about/bb-testing-page/ Got the same error putting photos into BB: a white screen for media library and ‘HTTP Error’ if uploading an image.

This happens only using BB, not when uploading images to media library via native WP.

Tom

Hey Tom,

I think the problem here is that you’re securing your backend with SSL but not your frontend. The builder sees that you are logged in to the https version of the site(backend) but not the http version(frontend) which is where the builder uploads the image. Can you either SSL secure your frontend, or remove the SSL from your backend and see if it makes a difference?

Ben

Hi Ben,

Bingo! That did it. Funny it didn’t come up before. Maybe it was the BB update?

All pages secure and BB works fine. Didn’t secure all pages earlier because the browsers kept showing that yellow triangle, difficult to secure all content. I’ll try SSL Insecure Content Fixer plugin.

Thanks for the great support.

Tom
