Category Description on Archive Pages

I’m wanting to show the post category description on each category archive page.

How might I go about this?

Example: http://wordpress2.xyz/category/messages/missing-series/

Thanks!
Andy

Hey Andy,

It should show by default. I just gave it a shot on my local and the description was available on hover like the example you sent.

Best,
Billy

Sorry, that’s not what I meant. I want it to show up as text above the first archive post on that page. Here’s an example from the previous (Joomla) website: http://screencast.com/t/VcnpSHpsN

There is a category image and description above the archived articles / posts.

Hey Andy,

No idea in that regard, don’t think I’ve seen that done on a WP site yet. Have you tried doing a bit of google research? That’s probably where I would start as nothing quick comes to mind. Sorry about that.

Best,
Billy

Hey Andy,

I’d just like to chime in here. Personally, I don’t really use archive pages. What I’d do is I just create a page and pull the posts from there using the Page Builder Posts module. This gives you more flexibility to the page.

If you really want to use Archive pages though and want to enable the Category description, you can check this thread from WP.org.

If you want to create a separate archive.php or category.php, you can just make a copy of our index.php file and rename it respectively.

Regarding the featured image, you can just add that to your description. Normally, the cat description box doesn’t accept HTML but the thread below discusses how to remove a filter to enable that.

Hope this helps!
