Just finished a site that needs to go live today,so cloned the site (using wpclone plugin) to its final domain the whole site is blank!! I just have an empty theme!, all media, pages, post, etc have been transferred via cloning process ok. This is urgent! wasn’t expecting this to happen, I’ve tried deactivating/reactivating the the child theme, still the same.
Sorry to hear about the problem. I haven’t tried cloning a site with the plugin you mention, but if it isn’t working for some reason, I would suggest contacting that plugin developer or posting in their forum. Hope that helps and let us know what you find out!
I have used the same plugin for every other site i have built that has NOT been a Beaverbuilder site until now. The Plugin does what its supposed to do. What is BB recommended way to transfer sites built with its Theme/Plugin as I don’t have time, I need to get this fixed ASAP.
Sorry to hear you’re having this problem. Do you mind listing down the steps you did when you migrated the site? I’ve checked the WP Clone plugin and it seems they handle serialized data but I haven’t really tested it yet. Also, did you try the migration process again? The problem might just be a fluke.
Hi Derrick, Plugins like Duplicator and BackupBuddy (my preference!) do not require access to the mysql database (assuming you mean via cPanel/phpMyAdmin) - as part of the backup process, they export the database to an sql file and zip the complete site up including the sql - then when you use the php file to restore they use that sql file to import the database (the new database needs to be created and credentials required of course!)
Hope this is of some help to you…
Regards, Dave
Over the years when using “cloning” plugins it seems I would occasionally have a site that for some reason wouldn’t duplicate/transfer everything over correctly. I never used one that worked 100% every single time but also do a lot of multisites so they are more complicated. However after a quick google & cloning manually a few times I found that there is really not that much to it and I could complete a migration in almost the same amount of time and it works EVERY time.
Once you do it a few times and understand what is involved its much easier than you would think. Of course I learned by making a few dumb mistakes and screwing up a few times but I never use cloning plugins anymore and never have issues.
If you have to move sites regularly its worth learning since as you said in your post that this was urgent
