Custom Header...

Hi,
First let me say I am not a coder so please be gentle with lingo, I do understand a tiny bit of CSS. I need to have this header to show site wide including blog pages (http://bocable.com/mtzion/).

I have BB theme installed and BB Child theme activated using a blank page with No Header/No Footer template set. Then I just used BB plugin to build the header and menu areas.

To make header site wide (for all pages and post) do I do this?
Make changes to the header.php file? If so, I don’t know what code to add or change to this file to get the look I am going for (http://bocable.com/mtzion). Could you help me with the code and where to add it etc?

Thanks for your help.

Hey Bo Cable,

Sorry to say but this requires PHP/WP core knowledge, not just CSS. But we do have a video created by Robby which discusses how to achieve this. Feel free to check it out on the link below. It should make it a bit easier.

Thanks Ben,

That worked great! I made the changes per the video but in my header.php file. Question do I need to copy the header.php file into the BB Child Theme folder so when BB updates I don’t lose this change?

That would be correct!

Ben

Hi Ben, I updated BB theme today and the custom header disappeared. I saved a copy of the header.php into the BB child folder. What happened?

Hey Bo Cable,

That’s weird. Are you using the child theme? You need activate the child theme and not the parent theme. Could you double check and see if that’s the case?

Ben

Hey Ben, Yes child theme was and is activate.

The Insert Pages Robby said to use in the video you told me about had an update as well. I updated it and BB. Could Insert Pages plugin be the problem. If so what do I do to keep this from happening in the future?

Hey Bo,

That could be the case. We’ve received complaints about how the latest version of Insert Pages isn’t working, and there are a lot of complaints on their wp.org support forum as well. Could you try using the older version, 2.9 and see if that fixes your issue?

Edit: Also, I’d like to add that this function is already baked in on the 1.7 beta if you’d like to give it a shot.

Ben

I don’t mind trying 1.7 beta. What do I do? Update BB plugin to 1.7? and Deactivate Insert Pages? Where would I find instructions on how to get the header the way they want it in the new 1.7?

Thanks
Bo

Hey Bo,

You can read the blog entry below for more info.
http://forum.wpbeaverbuilder.com/beaver-builder-1-7-now-with-partial-refresh-per-page-code-settings-and-our-first-shortcode/

And yes, you’ll need to remove the previous version before installing the beta version.

Ben

Sorry still learning all this stuff so bear with me. I need to uninstall BB Version 1.6.4.6 and then install the beta version? If so will I lose all the custom design I created using version 1.6.4.6?

Bo

Never mind I found an article about it that you guys wrote. Thanks for your help

Hi again,

I deleted Insert Pages. Deleted verson 6 of BB plugin and uploaded 1.7 beta. All works fine. I read the blog you told me to read but I still don’t know how to get the Header to appear. I created my custom header as a page/row I named Header and set it to global.

Unless I grab that row and add it to a page I it does not appear. I am so lost on how to set this custom header as the site wide header including post pages.

Thanks for your help
Bo

BTW: In Customizer I have Header Layout set to None. If I change it to save Nav Center nothing shows up on the site. I left it on none. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.
Bo

Can any one help?

Hey Bo,

It should be the same thing as you did with the Insert Pages plugin, but instead of using Insert Pages’ shortcode, you can use ours instead. The link below is the documentation for our shortcode.

Thanks Ben

Glad I could help. Enjoy!
