Display a Instagram widget

Hi
This may very well be beyond your (what’s it called…) scope(?)
I’ve used the Instagram for Wordpress plugin to display a Instagram widget on our site. It lets (should let) you insert the widget either via a shortcode or directly with a Instagram widget. I’ve tried in both html and text modules and of course the Instagram widget, but the contents won’t appear. At the best the widget title appears. Probably not compatible.
Long story short:
Do you recommend one particular plugin to display Instagram images?
Thanks,
Kjetil
PS On the side: You’re not working on a mega menu module, are you? I use Ubermenu today, but even if its Best in class, it delays page loading a bit.

Dear Kjetil,

We also want to add an instagram feed to our site using beaverbuilder and we are also struggling.

This is the page:http://www.pairfum.com/blog/

We have tried these plugins:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/instagram-feed/installation/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/instagram-slider-widget/

In our case we could also not add either of these to the sidebar via widget or shortcode in a text or html field.

We would very much like a suggestion from the BB team or another BB expert how best an instagram feed can be added to BB.

Many thanks for everybody’s help.

Hey guys,

I tried using the Instagram Feed plugin and it works just fine. Out of the 3 above, I’d recommend using this plugin because of the way it works, and no, this doesn’t have a widget. You just need to configure your Instagram under the Instagram Feed menu, copy the shortcode, and paste it anywhere you want it to show and that’s it. Give it a shot and let us know how it goes!

Ben

Dear Ben,

Many thanks for looking into this.

I have now also been able to get the two plugins I listed to work on our blog:http://www.pairfum.com/blog/

The shortcodes for these two plugins where added in two separate rows, each with a text editor field.

What does not seem to work is that I have tried to set the background colour of the first row to black (#3e3e3e). The colour shows within the BB PageBuilder but when I save to publish, the published version does not show the black background.

The first plugin displays an image slider but it is awkward display as the slider is set to the height of ‘portrait’ oriented images from instagram. You wouldn’t have an idea how the display could be improved ?

Many thanks for your help.

PAIRFUM

Hi Pairfum,

Can you provide a screenshot of where abouts on your on your page you’re referring to, please.

Thanks,
Danny

There is also a module in my Fotoplugins Plugin
Check it out here

Dear Danny,

I tried to paste a screen shot here but can only get part of the screen. Equally, printing the page as a pdf does not show the colours/images.

Hence, the best solution is to simply go to our blog page and scroll to the very bottom:
http://www.pairfum.com/blog/

You will first see a gallery that was generated via this plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/instagram-feed/installation/

Below the gallery, you see a slider that was generated by this plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/instagram-slider-widget/

The background of the gallery should be black but is showing cream. As it was not working and because the text was cream, i.e. the text did not show, I have set the background to cream and text to black for the time being.

Your advice on how I can change the background of the gallery to black would be most welcome.

Many thanks for your help.

PAIRFUM

Sorry Danny,

It seems that the link to our blog did not paste correctly in my reply above. Here is is again:

I hope it is visible this time.

Kind regards,

PAIRFUM

Hey Pairfum,

Sorry, I’m a bit confused. What do you mean when you say the background of the gallery should be black but is showing cream? Is there a background setting on the plugin that you set to black but it isn’t working?

Also, I just noticed, that Instagram slider plugin hasn’t been updated in over 8 months now. Chances are, development on it has halted. I’d recommend looking for another one for security purposes.

Ben

Dear Ben,

Many thanks for your reply and the warning about the slider widget. It is a good plugin though, as it is one of the few that shows in ‘google inspector’ the text of the instagram post. Do you have a recommendation for a more frequently updated plugin that shows the text of instagram ?

Regarding the background colour, here is a more detailed explanation of what I am trying to achieve:

  • within BB I have created two new ‘rows’. To both rows I added a ‘text editor’ module. The text editor in the first row contains the ‘gallery’ of the ‘instagram feed’ plugin. The text editor module in the second row shows the ‘slider’ of the ‘instagram slider plugin’.
  • I have tried changing the ‘background’ colour of the first row to black (#3e3e3e) or only the background colour of the text editor module. On screen, i.e. within BB, it works in both cases. When I ‘publish’ these changes I do not receive an error message but I cannot see the background colour on the live site.
  • my immediate though was that it was a caching issue (and it still might be) which is why I purged the ‘varnish’ cache of the site and the caches of the browser but I can still not see the background colour.
  • I am fairly confident that I was seeing a live version of the site, as I had also changed the ‘font colour’ of the headings to cream (#ffffee) and these colours were showing, i.e. the heading and background colour were the same.

This is our blog: http://www.pairfum.com/blog/

Your advice would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

PAIRFUM

Gotcha! Do you have any caching/minification plugins installed? Do you think you can either clear its cache or disable them real quick and see if that fixes it?

Ben

Hi
Been off for a couple of days…
Thank you for your feedback.
We decided to leave out both Instagram and Facebook feeds for now - but will certainly try the Instagram feed once our new site in launched.
Thanks,
Kjetil

Hi Kjetil,

When you do try the plugin again, be sure to follow Ben’s suggestion in the post above and disable any cache plugins whilst working on your site. As they can cause issues like the one you experienced.

Thanks,
Danny

Thanks - will do!
No caching plugins running here, though, but I’ll keep it in mind.

…and: In a PS initially here I asked if you have any plans of making a mega menu module?
The beauty (among others :o) with the builder is that it takes away the need for many plugins - a point you should market a bit stronger, I think. Anyhow, for us who insist of having a special menu, an extra plugin (like Ubermenu) is required. Having it a part of the Beaver, would keep page loading quicker.
If no plans - put it on the wish list!
Thanks,
Kjetil

Hey Kj,

Sorry for missing that one! It will be available with the BB theme version 1.5. Take a look at the feature request below for the kinda official statement.

Ben

Sounds great! - but just as part of the theme, not in the plugin, right?
Have to see if I should get the theme as well…

Hey Kj,

It will be for that release. But you can place a request to have it implemented to the plugin as a module as well via User Voice!
