Do I have to create a page for each category

Hello,

I don’t understand much about how category pages work. I do know that my categories somehow have to be on my menu so visitors can click and view them.

So, I noticed that BB can’t alter site category pages.

Therefore (knowing absolutely nothing) I decided to create a BB page for each category and use the post module to place all posts for that category on it’s own page. Then add that page to my menu.

Is this how it has to be done? Do I have the concept correct?

If that is correct. This leaves the question of how do I attach the specific category to the page I’ve created so when Google visits it understands how my site is constructed?

Will this plugin directly attach my category to the page I’ve created for it?

Or should I not worry about his? Since I attached a post module to the category on the new page I created?

Or do you suggest I install a mega menu such as ubermenu? Since my categories will be expanding say to at least 5 categories and 4 child or (subcategories) underneath?

Here is an example of what I mean on my site:

Thanks

Hi Jerry,

There is no need to create a page for each of your categories, as WordPress does this automatically for you.

You can then goto your WordPress Admin Dashboard > Appearance > Menus and on the left-hand side you should see a panel called Categories. This will allow you to add your Categories to your menu.

If you’re worried about your menu becoming congested, you can either

  • Use a submenu to display all your categories. This way they’re hidden until the user/visitor hovers over the menu item.

  • Use a plugin like UberMenu. Has vast amounts of options so you can configure your navigation exactly how you like.

  • Don’t add your categories to you menu. Instead use a widget on your blog. This will allow your users/visitors to see all your categories, but only when viewing your blog/news pages.

Thanks,
Danny

Hello Danny,

I’m sorry but I don’t think you accurately addressed my question. I may have confused you with my jiberish.

  1. I tried what you suggested previously, and I have heard that Wordpress auto creates a category page.

The problem is when you add those pages to the menu, they don’t mesh with the feel and design I’ve created for my site using BB.

And, these category pages can’t be altered in BB. So they look very plain and dry.

  1. This is why I decided to send you a link and show you that I created a specific page for the category (ex: marriage for husbands) And installed a post module so that all of the posts for that category are placed on the category page I’ve created.

My question was and still is, is there a way to connect my category (marriage for husbands) to the page I created for this category.

Or don’t worry about it and just continue to use the created page with the post module thereby collecting all posts created for that category?

  1. The plugin below claims to link my categories to any page. This is my ultimate concern that since BB is unable to alter the category pages auto created by Wordpress, that it will look like duplicate content and mess up the way Google looks at the site?

Or as I said before, should I even worry about this since I’m using the post module to collect all the posts made for each particular category?

  1. I don’t want to add a category widget to a side bar because this will clutter and take away from the content as the visitor reads my post. In my posts there are no side bars. Just a one one column.

This is why I asked about Ubermenu in case things began to get cluttery on the navigation bar.

Thanks

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

  1. I wouldn’t personally create a page for my category pages. However, if you want to use the generated page(s) by WordPress and style it similar to you pages created with the page builder. You will need to use a child theme and use our shortcode functionality.

http://forum.wpbeaverbuilder.com/knowledge-base/shortcodes/

You can also create template files for each of your categories and add the shortcodes to display you saved Rows and Modules.

  1. I have never heard of anyone creating a page to override the category archive. However, if you do, you may want to redirect the category archive URL so that it points to your page. For information on this, you will want to ask this question on the WordPress support forums.

  2. I believe that plugin (could be wrong) adds taxonomies to the Page post type such as tags and categories. From what I’ve read from the description, it doesn’t link your category archive to a specific page.

If you’re worried about Google and duplicate content i.e. two category pages with the same name. You may want to ask this on the WordPress support forums, as I am not entirely sure to be honest.

  1. You can use UberMenu with Beaver Builder, the developer of the UberMenu plugin has instructions on how to implement it which I have linked below.
