Exclude category in posts

I have a lot of questions this week! Sorry!

Is there a way, when using the Posts module, to exclude a category? I have one site that has A LOT of categories, but we have one category we want to keep hidden. How can we keep those posts from showing up? I tried Simply Exclude, and while it works everywhere else, it doesn’t affect what BB is showing when we use the posts module.

Listing all the categories we want to include will be inefficient as those change frequently.

Hey Amy,

Unfortunately, the only option in the posts module currently is to list them out as you’ve probably noticed in the settings. Sorry about that! Perhaps, creating a category with a different parent category could be the way to go here. Let me know if that helps!

I’m not really sure what you mean. We have a homepage using BB, where we list the posts in a feed. Then we want a “secret” hidden page that shows only posts from the new hidden category. That works well, except that those posts that we put in the hidden category are still showing up in the homepage. If I just use the default WordPress post page, then those posts are hidden by Simply Exclude. The posts don’t go in the feed, the search engines, or anywhere else. But I can’t get them hidden on the homepage. This is a huge site with years and years of posts, so redoing all the categories to make this work is not going to be possible.

I guess I’ll try some other category exclusion plugins to see if any will stop BB from pulling in the category.

Hey Amy,

I don’t really think you can use any plugin to filter the Posts from the Posts module since it runs its own query. But I could be wrong. There was another guy who wanted the same thing so I’d suggest heading over to our User Voice Forums and add this in as a feature request or vote for it if it’s already there. :slight_smile:

Ultimate Category Excluder actually will work, but it hasn’t been updated in a long time so I don’t like to use it. Plus, the other issue when I use it, it won’t let me pull the category on a page where I actually WANT the results to show up.
