Exporting pages from localhost to live site showing up weird

Hi,
I’ve created a site on my localhost (using DesktopServer) and want to export it onto a live staging site on SiteGround.

When I exported the pages using the standard WP export/import in tools, all of the pages imported all the text and some of the images into one row in a text box. It’s missing all background images and BB rows/columns/functionality. When I update all of the urls, the images are still missing. I look in the wp-contents folder and they show up there fine.

When I look at the ‘published’ page, it appears blank. When I go into the page builder, the text is there but only in one large text box. If I make a change to this box and click ‘publish’ nothing shows up on the published page. If I add a new row and put something it in and then publish, the whole page shows up with the new change and all of the text box in one large column.

Then I tried exporting the pages by creating a template of each individual page and exporting it that way. Once I imported the templates onto the live site, they show up completely blank (no text, images, or BB rows/columns). The templates appear fine on my local install.

I’m completely confused as to what my next step should be. I have another site that I created using BB on my local install that I want to upload to another live site on a different host and it also experiences the same issue. I feel like it must have something to do with my localhost or DesktopServer settings.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hey J.J.,

Welcome to BB forums! Sorry to hear you’re having this problem. If you’re migrating to a new site, you might want to check out the KB article below. I hope it helps.

Thanks!

Hi KC,

I followed the link that you sent and tried the script and cache clear. It found a few links that hadn’t been changed properly but that didn’t fix the issue. It’s all still acting the same.

What should I do now?

J.J.

To be clear, I’m just trying to export the pages from my local site onto the live staging site… I’m not trying to migrate the whole WP install. I just need the pages with the BB functionality still intact. I don’t want to completely delete or overwrite the current live install site.

Thanks!

Hey J.J.,

When importing the templates, could you try using this patched version that we have? It seems the standard WP importer is having problems importing serialized data.

Ben

I’ve tried deleting all the pages and templates and reimporting them but they still show up blank/broken. I’m not really sure what the deal is. I’m surprised that the templates show up completely blank. When I import the templates, it does seem to import some of the images into the media library, but many are broken. I’m confused as to why it imports the images while all of the templates are blank.

I’ve tried deactivating all my plugins and then importing. I’ve tried importing the templates to a new user. I’ve tried to import the templates after doing a search and replace on the url in the xml. I’ve tried everything I can possibly think of and the templates are still blank.

Any ideas?

The website didn’t update before I sent my last message. I’ll try the patched version and let you know.

Hey J.J.,

I’m not really sure if you saw my reply above? Have you tried using the patched importer to import your templates?

Ben

That seems to have completely fixed everything!

All pages and templates appear to be working fine now. Thanks for your help!

Awesome! Enjoy BB!

Hey Ben would this patch work for me also? I’ve just tested a site before going live and all the elements have failed again - this is the second site to do this (last one we ended up fully rebuilding once on the live host server
Here’s a look at what’s going on http://buildingsupplynz.co.nz/ it should layup like this http://mytestpanel.co.nz/boltshop/

Hey Matt,

Just took a look at your Website and it seems some of BB settings were not imported correctly. I’d suggest that you perform a full backup before using the patched version of the WP importer that we have. Anyway, please make sure that you have performed all the steps listed on this KB article below. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks KC we’ll give it a go.
We had followed this process twice and still got this result :frowning:
We’ve never used WP importer before as we normally move the whole database so hopefully this will fix our issue

Hey Matt,

Hope that helps and let us know how it goes.

Thanks!
