Google Fonts not rendering in Safari 5.1.7 (Windows 7 64bit)

Hi folks,

For some strange reasons, google fonts are not being displayed in Safari 5.1.7 (latest) in Windows 7. e.g. http://new.theastrologer.com/articles/soulmates/7101

Any clue?

Thanks!

Hey David,

Thanks for getting in touch, good looking site! I took a look and it appears the fonts are displaying as they should in Safari and the other typical browsers. Are you still seeing different?

Best,
Billy

Hey Billy,

Still seeing it on Safari 5.1.7 / Windows 7. Were you able to test its the same case with your similar setup?.. I tested over at BrowserShots and it looks fine for Safari 7 / Mac OS X. Pretty sure my Safari is at its default settings as I rarely use it…

Thanks!

Hey David,

Sure enough! It looks like Safari for Windows has trouble rendering Google fonts on any site.

In Beaver Builder, we load Google fonts in the way that Google recommends and I don’t think we’re going to be able to change that. I am not 100% sure, but it appears that the Windows version of Safari is no longer being developed (or at least updated with any regularity). The last update was in 2012. =/

But, there are a few suggestions in this stack overflow post on how you can fix this quirk:

Sounds like either generating and loading the TTF version of the font or possibly removing quotes from the CSS declaration will do it.

Hope that helps!

Hi Robby,

Thanks for the reassuring answer. At least we know it’s not on our side or beaverbuilder’s. I’m guessing the majority Safari users is on Mac, so, not much to worry about here for the time being.

Thanks!

No problem. I agree. I have to imagine the number of user on Safari windows is rather low. Thanks for the heads up, though. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know!
