Hi Lyle, while I get your point that you have shortcode left over when the plugin is deactivated. It does not really represent any good argument. Yes the page builders utilize shortcode, but when is a client really actually going to deactivate the plugin that they have been taught how to use correctly?
If the customer wants to move away from using the particular page builder to say something like Beaver Builder, then all that needs to happen is simply copy all the content from the front end, and then paste the page back into the editor. It gives you the same content that you have just displayed when Beaver Builder shows when deactivated.
It is a 2 min process to copy the content of the page and then put it in the native editor. Whilst I am looking to transition our studio over to a page builder, we are seriously considering to be using Beaver Builder in all our builds.
Before using BB we have used VC in most builds and never have an issue with the client messing things up. So if you take away the argument of shortcodes showing on the front end because the page builder might have been deactivated, then please share some more details on why these page builders do not compare.
Take into consideration into your reply that all our clients are well trained and are provided with training manuals. The manuals refer to pages showing shortcode, and the training goes into showing them the shortcode when they are with us. This way they can see what happens at worst when they see this and how to correct it by enabling the page builder.
Yes it is a bonus that the page shows no shortcode when deactivated with Beaver Builder, but it is not enough of an argument unfortunately. Thank you for taking the time to make a video review, I would have left this comment on the video review page but it was not activated for comments.
This makes interesting reading…

So perhaps this runs deeper…

ps Peter - your comment about copying and pasting the content from the front end taking a couple of minutes might be true for a simple page, but not for a complex multi row/multi column page with graphical content…
Hi Dave, Thank you for adding to this. Adjusting the layout will be the same for any builder migration to another builder. This will be the same for anyone moving from let’s say Beaver to Visual Composer or Divi. The layout is lost regardless of the builder being used once it is deactivated. So in a sense this is not really an argument of what happens when / if…
Copy pasting from front end to bring to the backend is the only process that can be done to ensure you are just copying HTML formatted content. Background design etc will be lost in any builder.
Hi Peter,
Sure, I have no arguments with that…
Then there is the on-going debate about the use of shortcodes
Some in the WP world thing the overuse of them is an evil thing! I’d be interested in other peoples thoughts?
