Multisite to Single install Migration

I have a multisite environment to create and develop my sites, then at the end I need to move each subsite to a single install individually, I transfer all the files (templates, content, customizer settings, etc) and everything works fine when moving from multisite to another multisite but not from multisite to a single wp install, everything seems to get transferred but the pages where BB is active dont work. Is there any extra step that I need to take in this case?

Hey Carlos,

As the domain changes upon moving the site, it is very important you do a serialized search and replace on the database to replace the URLs. Check out this article for more there! If you are already performing that either with the resource we recommend or another plugin like Better Search and Replace, we may have to look into this further. Let me know!

Best,
Billy

Billy, appreciate your help! I successfully ran the search application and got back the report containing all the lines that were found and replaced, however that didn’t fix my issue, my single install site is still not working properly. I did the same migration from a multisite to another multisite and it works great, it breaks only when moving from multisite to single install, do you think the issue might be because of the fact that the content gets saved in a different folder path?

Hey Carlos! Sorry you’re having trouble.

How did you migrate the database from multisite to single? Would it be possible for us to get temporary admin access to the site?

Also, just to rule it out, you could try clearing the Beaver Builder cache from the settings panel.

I did clear the cache already. All the info has been transferred including images and when you go to the page settings all the content its there but it’s not being processed through the BB builder, not sure where that data is stored so I don’t know where to look for it. I used the Wordpress Import/Export tool since it was from wordpress to wordpess.

It’d be great to know how to do it the other way around to, coming from a single wp install into a multisite subsite as my workflow will be exactly that all the time. Thank you so much!

I needed to correct this issue today, otherwise I have to redo everything, anyone available to take a look at this?

Hi Carlos,

Sorry for the delay. I had some car trouble this morning and it took a bit longer to get out the door than usual.

We’ve been noticing a lot of issues with the WordPress Import/Export tool recently. There’s been a bunch of one star reviews on the plugin’s repo page, too. For now, we’re recommending that people avoid using the WordPress Import/Exporter if possible.

That said, the WordPress Import/Export tools is the recommended way to move a multisite install to a single site. I hate to say it, but it might be a good idea to rethink your workflow. It might be best to start from a single site install if that site is eventually going to be a single site.

We did create a patched version of the WordPress Import/Exporter that you can try. Be sure to take a good backup first. Here’s a link:

http://forum.wpbeaverbuilder.com/downloads/wordpress-importer-patched.zip

Several others who had the same problem we’re able to successfully move their site using the patched importer.

Hope that helps. Let me know how it goes.

wow! this absolutely fixed the issue. Thank you so much!!! Sorry about your car

The reason I need to follow this workflow is to speed things up for development, I can create and design a project super quick with a temp preview subdomain in place already, plus my initial settings and plugin package is ready to go! Moving the website over when ready to launch (or at the point where (if) it needs custom modifications) is the critical point if I don’t have a solid import/export solution. your patch worked great so I’ll keep using it! Is there any place where you have documentation or updates available? I’d like to stay in the loop, please let me know how.

Again, Appreciate your help!!! Saved my day!

Carlos, oh good! Really glad to hear it worked for you.

Thanks for the mention about my car, too. It was just a dead battery, so it slowed me down but nothing major!

So, we don’t have any plans to continue maintaining the patched exporter. I would NOT plan to rely on having it available in the future. We’re really hoping that the native WordPress import/exporter gets an update here soon, and we are now telling people not to use the native import/exporter if possible.

I hate that we don’t have a better solution right now, but I wanted to make sure to explain in more detail.
