Newbie can't add items to main menu bar

Well, I’ve got BB theme and BB plugin installed. Following the instructions, my first step was to create a menu bar. I added three items: Home, Blog, and About.
Chrome shows only Home. Firefox shows none at all, just the text “Select Menu.” I’ve disable caching in Firefox. Also deactivated the plugin WP Super Cache. No joy.

I know this is surely pilot error, but where am I going wrong?

Hi Jack,
I’m not sure why Chrome and Firefox would be different?
Did you create your menu under Appearance >> Menu and select where to place it under the menu Settings section? (This is in WP Admin, not BB theme or plugin)
All I can think of at this stage! The Select Menu message usually appears when no menu has been selected for that location

Hey Jack,

Dave’s right. The select menu appears when there is no menu set for that specific menu spot. There are 3 places you can place a menu on the BB theme. The top menu, header menu and footer menu. The menu you see right of the header is the header menu. This is the only menu spot shown by default. Just assign a menu there, like you do with any other themes, and you should be good to go!

Well, I see ONE of the things I did wrong. Somehow I managed to miss seeing the button that says “Add to Menu” Guess I was looking for a blue button (sorry – I’m somewhat vision-impaired). I’m attaching a screen shot which seems to show that the menu is set up now.

The bad news is, it hasn’t changed the appearance of the page.

I’m pretty sure I’m still missing one very important ingredient: I’m not seeing the critical “Update” or “Publish” buttons that I’m used to. Where did they go???

Hey Jack,

No worries! All of technical support is done in these forums so you’re on the right track! You can upload the PDF file to your site and give us a link for it(a user tried that once before on an image).

The Update or Publish buttons when in the Page Builder are found in the top right corner of the screen under the blue button Done. The screenshot below is what you get after hitting the blue Done button.

Hope this helps!

Hey Jack,

Yes, you’ll have to activate the Page Builder on the page to start using it. You can click on a Page you want to edit, then hit the Page Builder tab or button. You can then start using BB.

Our Knowledge Base is full of stuff that can get you in the right track! Below are links to articles showing you the use of each module. You can snoop around that part of the site for more BB know-hows.

Hey Jack,

No worries! Everything you need to know about the BB Plugin and Theme is on the Knowledge Base. I’m afraid what you need is an in-depth tutorial for WordPress. You can actually find a lot of those if you search on Google. The link below is one I found so you might want to give it a shot.

Gotcha! Sorry for my wrong assumption. I’ll let the guys know about the Knowledge Base issue. By the way, what were you looking for in our Knowledge Base that you couldn’t find?

Hey Jack,

Here is a link to all of our videos Colin has done for us thus far. They should be numbered in terms of order as well. Hope that helps in that regard. We are hoping to release many more in the future!

Re. your other questions, our apologies we missed those! Here we go on those!

The child theme file is to upload and activate after you’ve uploaded the parent Beaver Builder theme. This essentially allows you to make CSS customizations (and PHP) if desired without losing them upon updating the theme. You can read more about child themes here if desired.

The photoshop files are given in the event you would like to do some custom design work or mockups based on our page templates for clients.

The custom module documentation and examples are primarily for developers that would like to create their own modules for Beaver Builder.

Let me know if we can assist further and enjoy working with BB!

Best,
Billy

Hey Jack,

It’s linked at the beginning of the thread, but here it is as well - https://vimeo.com/user36152596/videos. Hope that helps and we definitely plan to add more so stay tuned there!

Sorry to be a pain, but once again we have a situation where a thread I was helping in and interested in has most of the entries hidden.
I enjoy reading threads each morning and it is frustrating to miss out out on a good deal of the conversation :frowning:
Cheers, Dave

Sorry, Dave. That was my call. I sent a message in private because I was discussing stuff that was critical of BB, but almost certainly pilot error. I’m new to BB and this site, so didn’t want to look like a complete idiot in public.

My main complaint was that I felt that finding in-depth tutorials was too difficult. Ben and Billie have given me links to Colin’s videos on Vimeo, and more detailed Knowledge Base links. They’ve also promised to make finding these things a little easier. I’m content now, and will shut up and go do my homework.
