I’m redesigning a website(with 100+ pages) that has WPbakery installed and Polylang with lingotek.
I recreate this with BB but the problem here is that every design on standard language has to also be made with the translated page. I see WPML has that covered, but it looks like Polylang has not.
Any thoughts how to speed up my process?
I now think about deleting all text in BB itself (with all shortcakes of WPbakery) and remake every page and when finished, save every page as an template and then refill this with the other language. looks like a lot of work
With Polylang, you’ll build your pages in the main language with BB, then click on translate in a secondary lang, page by page in the admin.
It will duplicate the page with its BB layout, and link the langs.
Then you’ll open the duplicate in BB and replace the contents in BB editing area (if page) or in WP admin (if post), just like you did for the main lang.
With WPML, it’s the same principle except you’ll use WPML Translation Editor for replacing the second lang content.
The UI is more convenient with the original lang in a left column and the translated in a right col.
But it can become tricky with custom fields, translated images…
WPML is more powerful but complicated and often buggy in my experience.
The choice would depend on your site complexity i’d say.
thanks Avanti, but it just won’t duplicate / translate the page with content nor layout. which version do you use? (maybe the pro version works better?).
For now it looks like I have 2 options: using cloning with duplicate plugin or use a saved template for every original language page. the last option sounds better because it can work in existing setup/ecosystem and any future changes in layout can be made more easily
Polylang Pro version works the same way as the free version by duplicating the posts.
So does WPML, except it handles the translated content in its specific UI and might be able to synchronize the layout of pages in the different langs based on the main lang.
Still, it’s much more complicated than Polylang.
Now, if your 100 publications are posts (not pages), the layout should remain unique or at least just a few, so it’s not really a problem.
