Prefered Image Size for Minim template

I noticed that the image on the Minim template is 1800 X 1156. Half the picture is not showing. Seems unnecessary to make the image that big. Is there a preferred image size that is more conservative than the sample template? Is there a reason why the image should be that big when some if it is not being displayed? What is best practice when it comes to size and is there a reference guide on preferred images sizes on each of the templates. That would be super handy when creating our own images.

Thanks

Hey Derek,

Thanks for getting in touch! The background image for the Minim template is that large as it needs to scale up for larger monitors. Given, the height isn’t really needed since we’re using it in a hero type area, but the length was for the above reason. There really isn’t a guide, but for large full width images, I would say definitely get somewhere around there in width. Height obviously doesn’t matter as much and you can manipulate your images however you see fit by cropping, etc. I’m sure if you did a google search, you could find a handy image guide for website building use. Our buddy Colin over at Dynamik Beaver created this resource awhile back if it helps.

One thing to note on images, regardless of their respective size, file size is infinitely more important so definitely keep that in mind when creating images to keep page load speeds down. For example, that Minim image is under 300kb. Hope that helps!

Best,
Billy
