Template Export / Import

I’m haing trouble exporting / importing some my templates. Firstly I’d like to check if I am exporting correctly. On this page the instructions say “visit your WordPress dashboard > Tools > Export. By selecting the ‘Layout Templates’ option”

I only have “Templates” as an option in there. Is that the correct option to select?

Hi Clark,

In the Tools > Export section, you should also see Pages and Posts, as well as Templates. Do you see those?

If you’re just looking to export your Beaver Builder Templates, then the Templates is all you will need to export.

Hope that helps.

Colin

Hi Colin

Yes I do see pages and posts in the export section. Which I exported / imported into the new WP install. I see my templates but nothing happened when I try apply them from BB page builder.

Here’s my setup. I’m trying to migrate BB pages from site1 to site2.

Both sites are Genesis/Dynamik/Beaver Builer setups.

Site1 is the default Dynamik skin which I customized to achieve the look of I was after.

Site2 is the freshly Dynamik skin. I’m doing this because I like the sticky header and sub header image it uses.

Thanks for your time! I did search the forum for this problem but could not find a solution.

Hey Clark,

I think the functionality that you like is from the theme you’re using, not from BB Page Builder. The template can only copy page contents, it doesn’t include the header/menu/footer/sidebar as those are from the theme that you’re using. Do you mind sharing the URL of site1 so we can check verify?

Ben

Thanks!

Hi Clark,

Can you please give us temporary admin access to both sites (Set as private reply) so we can take a look at what’s happening?

Thanks,

Colin

Hi Clark,

I successfully imported a template created on one of my test sites into Site 2.
I successfully exported a template created in Site 2, then imported that into Site 1 successfully.

I suspect that it’s one of your plugins that is affecting the export of the Templates on Site 1. There are a lot of extra export categories there!

Can you try deactivating all your plugins, then try doing an export and import? Then reactivate one plugin at a time and repeat until you find the guilty plugin.

It’s a bit of a long process, but should isolate the problem.

Let us know how you get on.

Colin

Hi Colin

I really appreciate your time with this. Here’s the steps I have done.

  1. Site 1. Deactivated ALL plugins.

  2. Exported all content. Tools > Export

  3. Imported resulting xml file in Site 2.

The data has imported but is not displaying, eg if you login and check this page: http://www.bluedogserver05.info/facingfearsfreshly/book/

You will see the content is there when you click Page Builder, however it’s all in one row so:
a/ its not displaying
b/ it hasn’t imported correctly?

Thanks
Clark

Hey Clark… I wanted to give you a status update here. I’ve been banging my head against the keyboard here trying to figure out what’s happening on your site

I think there might be a bug when exporting pages with a saved row/module. I can’t seem to recreate on my site, but I am getting close (I think). I am going to take a little break and come back to this, but we’re looking into it.

Sorry for the trouble…

Just took another look and tried a couple more things:

Cleared BB Cache
Deleted and Re-installed the BB Plugin

I think there is some kind of database corruption problem here. It could also be an issue with the WordPress exporter not exporting all the data correctly, or a combination of the two.

Clark, bear with us while we try to work this out. Also, ignore the BB version for now - I only had the Agency version handy, but we’ll put the Pro version back for you.

Thanks for your patience.

Clark, chiming in here again. It looks like there is a legitamate bug or issue. We have another support thread with a similar problem. Justin wrote a good response here for reference:

http://forum.wpbeaverbuilder.com/support/q/pages-never-exportimport-correctly/#post-44454

We’re doing our best to resolve the problem. If migrating the entire site is an option (as opposed to just import/exporting the templates), you might want to consider going this route. We’re doing our best to come up with another option.

Hi Clark,

I’ve managed to narrow it down and isolate the problem to your existing Templates. When I created a couple of brand new templates using various modules, those templates exported without any problems. That makes me think something was going on when you originally created the pages/templates. Not sure what it would be, but when I tried editing and copying an existing template (and I did this many different ways and multiple times), the templates wouldn’t export correctly. I even tried another Exporter plugin, but it didn’t make any difference.

While Justin and Robby look further into this, you could try rebuilding one of your pages from scratch (at least you have the content to copy) and saving it as a template. If everything works out okay, move on to the next one.

I’m sorry I can’t give you a better response than that at this time, but hopefully it won’t hold you back too much.

Colin

Hey Clark! I think we have a solution for you. Again, you can reference this other support thread for all the details:

http://forum.wpbeaverbuilder.com/support/q/pages-never-exportimport-correctly/page/2/

It looks like there is a bug in the WordPress Importer Plugin that’s breaking our serialized data. Justin whipped up a patched version of the importer that seems to be working. Here’s a link:

http://forum.wpbeaverbuilder.com/downloads/wordpress-importer-patched.zip

Give that one a try. It would probably be a good idea to backup the site you’re going to run it on too. Let me know if it works for you or if you have any questions!

Apologies for taking so long to get back to you, I have been busy with other projects. The patched importer did the trick! Thanks Ben, Colin, Robby and Justin! I really appreciate your time and expertise.

Awesome! Glad it worked. Sorry again for all the trouble.
