Tools - Global Settings - Margins/Padding etc

Folks -this is the one thing I always struggle with.

Could you let me know what you generally set your margins and paddings in rows/modules settings when starting a project.

I always end up with this sort of issue - see here: https://gyazo.com/82d7a53bad24f134f0546ecd7c29bdc4 with column background fills being wider than placed images and footer and nav borders being wider than page content.

Hope that makes sense - if you wouldn’t mind letting me know your preferred px sizings that would be fantastic.

Hey Darron,

Can you share the URL of that page in the screenshot so we can check?

Ben

Morning Ben,
Thanks for getting back to me - it’s this URL here: http://cartmelluxurycottages.co.uk/

Though I was also wondering wether there was a ‘best practise’ you guys implement in terms of setting up page/site width and row margins/padding and module (see here: https://gyazo.com/c80ac376637f684a4cc0bce946818513) when starting a new client project

Thanks Ben

Darron

Hey Darron,

By default, modules are set with a 20 margin on all sides as seen and can be updated in the Global Settings and this is the gap that you’re seeing in the photo and text module of your site. Since you set a background color on the text module it looks misaligned. The best way to fix this is to get rid of the left/right margin of both the photo and text module and set a left/right margin on the column settings instead.

Re the global settings, it’s completely up to you whether you change the values there. But since the default value only became an issue when you added a background-color on the text module and if you’re not going to be doing a lot of this in your site then I would advise to leave the default setting as it is.

Many thanks for getting back to me. Could you possibly confirm what the default settings are for the global settings in BB

thanks again

Darron

noticed, the only problem with that is that is messes up responsive settings too -see here: http://design.google.com/resizer/#url=http%3A%2F%2Fcartmelluxurycottages.co.uk%2F

Hey Darron,

The adjustment I mentioned was for the columns, these ones:

columns

Give all the photo modules on this row no left/right margin and add margins in their columns instead. Re the mobile issue, seems that it’s caused by the margins you set for the upper part of the page. Like the zero margin-left on the text.

I’m losing the will to live  here’s what I have now: http://cartmelluxurycottages.co.uk/

I’m just trying to achieve a site of 960px width (boxed)

With the header and footer being 960px wide (and any associated borders)

For the content rows to be 960px wide and if two columns (or more) to have a margin between the two columns of 20px. and the content to site at the edge of the left and right side

Does that make sense?

Could you reply with the standard set up for margins and padding etc in the global tools setting for BB, so that I do not need to set up new domain to check what they are when first installing BB - or is there a way for me to reset all settings and start afresh

Thanks again

Darron

ps. no idea why I’m finding this one so difficult :frowning:

Hi Darron,

Default Settings are margin is 0px and padding is 20px.

Thanks,
Danny

many thanks for that Danny
