Trouble with Export/Import for "Your Templates"

On WP Engine, we have a production site and its staging site. I’m testing export/import of Templates only, exporting from the staging site. When I use WP import to the production site, BB error “You have no saved templates.”

Hi Kelly,

I downloaded your XML file to try it out on my local environment and it appears there is an error in that file. I was not able to import it. Have you tried exporting a fresh file ensuring the page templates option to export is toggled?

Best,
Billy

Several times.

I’m submitting a help ticket to WPEngine re: why the export file is blank. Fingers crossed!

Bummer, sorry to hear. Let me know what you find out and we’ll go from there!

Best,
Billy

WP Engine support solved it! WP Engine’s staging environment url (that included the word staging) was conflicting with the template export.

Work around - I successfully exported pages to a production site (not staging url). then saved the pages as templates. Exported the templates and … success! My templates finally imported to the desired production site.

Lesson learned - on WP Engine, don’t build on the staging site if you want to export templates.

Thanks Kelly, great news and appreciate the heads-up!
