Website page showing up differently on other systems (laptop or iPad/iPod)

I finally finished my website using BB, and it looks great. It took some work, but I got it migrated onto my host site. It looks perfect on the laptop that I created the website in, but if I test it on another laptop, it looks horrible. The icon is huge across the top, and the gallery or parrallax background for the home page don’t work on any other systems. I expected the pics or gallery to compress on different screens, not disappear completely. And I have no idea why the FEDCOR icon is so big. I assumed my BB theme would be versatile enough to work with different systems. What can I do to correct this? My website is: fedcordesign.com

Hey John,

Thanks for getting in touch and welcome to the BB forums! It’s quite possible that what you are seeing on the other system is a cached version of the site. Try clearing the BB cache. If you have a caching plugin installed, try clearing its cache as well.

Also, I noticed that the slider images is still under localhost. That may be the reason why some images aren’t showing from another machine. I’d suggest running the plugin Better Search Replace. Just make sure you create a backup of your DB before doing so. Searching for //localhost:8888/FedcorDesign and replacing it with //www.fedcordesign.com should fix you right up! Again, that is after creating a backup of your DB.

One more thing, did you still have a copy of the original DB before the migration?

Ben

Hi Ben,
Thank you for the quick reply. It’s appreciated.
I used the Better Search Replace Plugin and found 14 instances where localhost was replaced.
The website looks almost there. One key issue is that the gallery on the Homepage is not showing up, and the vertical area of the background (map) is larger. If you could figure out these issues I think it would work. Thanks!

Hey John,

It looks like the site is still trying to pull several resources from localhost. You may want to give it another run on the Better Search and Replace tool. Also, I’ve seen this personally happen due to caching. It may just need a bit of time, but give the search and replace another shot. We’re heading out for the remainder of the day, but someone will be available first thing tomorrow to assist further. Should give the site a bit of time if caching is involved. You may also want to clear the BB cache, any caching plugin as well as just resave the permalinks to see if any of those help. We’ll get this figured out soon, John!

Best,
Billy

Hi Billy,
Thanks for the tip. That corrected a lot of the final issues. I’d say this problem is resolved!
Small detail to correct on my Contacts Page: On some screens the Upload Browser window extends into the next window, while on some screens it looks fine. Not even sure how to check and resolve this, but it’s a small detail.
Thanks again to you and the team. Love the new website. Have a great day.
Regards,
John

Awesome news, glad we all got it working properly! I’m not getting the contact page issue you mention testing in several browsers and sizes. Hmm, screenshot perhaps?

Best,
Billy

Silly question… How do I attach a screenshot to this post?

Hey John,

You can use an image hosting service like imgur, upload the image there and paste the link here.

Ben

Thanks Ben,
Here’s the location for the screenshot: http://imgur.com/a08l54v

On 2 of my systems it looks good, but on my one laptop it looks like the above link, where the browse extends into the next window. I tried switching the position of the windows, but that didn’t seem to matter, it still sticks out.
Thank you,
John

Hey John,

Do you mind sharing the plugin you are using for the dropbox upload? Better yet, send us temp admin access to the site so we can check?

Hey John,

Sorry to say but this is already from the plugin you are using for the dropbox upload. For some reason it is not optimized for IE, it works fine on Chrome and FF though. I’d suggest checking with the plugin dev for this.

Ben

Thanks Ben,
I appreciate the assistance of you and your great team. This is a minor issue, that we can consider closed.
Best regards,
John

Hey John,

No worries! Have fun with The Beaver!
