WP Multisite: updating Beaver Builder, shared templates

Hi guys,

I have couple of questions regarding using Beaver Builder plugin on WordPress Multisite installation:

  1. I have several sites created in WP Multisite. I would like to use Beaver Builder plugin just on a few of them, so I have not network-activated the plugin, I rather activate it per the specific site. However, I ran into an issue regarding automatic plugin updates. It doesn't seem to work for me when I activate the plugin license in this setup. The plugin hasn't notified me about new 1.5.3 update and I wasn't able to auto-update it either. I had to download a new version from your website and install it via FTP. Is this normal behavior or am I doing something wrong? Do I need to network-enable the plugin to receive auto updates in WP Multisite?
  2. Second question is about custom templates I create. Is it possible to share the templates between sites in WP Multisite? Can I create a template in one site and use it in another?

Thank you and regards,

Oliver

PS: You can maybe apply this script to allow search results from a specific forum on this support forums: http://sevenspark.com/tutorials/how-to-search-a-single-forum-with-bbpress

Hey Oliver,

#1 is happening because it’s not active on the main site. The plugin needs to be active there in order to ping our server when WordPress checks for updates.

#2 isn’t possible yet but will be in some form in the future. Probably not exactly the way you are asking though. Templates are stored as custom post types, so sharing them across many sites would be resource intensive on large installs. Also, most of our Agency customers probably wouldn’t want that. The common request has been the ability to override our templates network-wide, so those will probably come from the templates on the main site. I’m not 100% sure yet, but will be starting dev on this in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the tip on the forums!

Justin

Hi Justin,

Thanks for your answer!

  1. I'm going to enable the plugin for main site then.
  2. Understand the obstacles here. The planned solution would work for me too. Looking forward to future updates ;)

Oliver
